The Squeeze

Today I released my first native mobile app -- The Squeeze -- built with Flex 4.5, Flash Builder 4.5, and AIR, into BlackBerry AppWorld. Part of my inspiration for posting this is that AppWorld doesn't show the full-size screenshots, and I'm very happy with the design work that Mark did for me, so I wanted to show it off here. There are two themes -- a Boy theme and a Girl theme -- toggleable by clicking the G/B icon in the lower-right:

This has, obviously, come a long way from the default skin you get with a new Flex Mobile application. Here's what it looked like before Mark got his hands on it:

I did experience some of the same (infamous) frustrations when signing up for the Developer Zone, getting a notarized form, etc -- and more frustration during the signing process. And I have my qualms with AppWorld, too. But ultimately, I was able to make it happen, and I'm excited to see if it takes off.

What really excites me, though, is the prospect that with a tiny bit of effort I can recompile and target Android, and ship a version for Android tablets as well. And if the tablet apps do decently (read: pay for a case of beer) then I'll probably put some time and effort (and call in more favors to Mark) to revisit the smartphone form factor, which is, of course, where this app started its life.
